A new partnership with Delta Hotels by Marriott Allentown Lehigh Valley marks Budderfly’s move into hospitality with a focus on energy efficiency and modern infrastructure
Shelton, Pennsylvania, 26 August 2026 – Hotels operate around the clock, making energy a major part of their daily operating costs. From heating and cooling guest rooms to powering kitchens, lighting common areas and managing water systems, hotel properties depend on a wide range of energy-intensive equipment. Budderfly is now bringing its Energy as a Service model to the hospitality industry through a new partnership with Delta Hotels by Marriott Allentown Lehigh Valley.
The partnership will focus on modernizing the hotel’s energy infrastructure without requiring an upfront investment from the property. Budderfly will fund, install, monitor, and maintain the upgraded systems under a long-term Energy as a Service agreement. The approach is designed to make energy modernization simpler for hotel operators while helping them improve efficiency and manage operating expenses.
The project includes several major upgrades. These include combined heat and power technology, a solar canopy over the hotel parking area, battery storage, replacement of aging rooftop heating and cooling equipment, new in-room packaged terminal air conditioner units, water conservation technology, and intelligent building controls.
Together, these technologies are intended to help the property use energy more efficiently and improve the performance of its critical building systems. Rather than relying on separate providers for different equipment and services, the hotel will have one partner managing the broader energy infrastructure.
For a hotel, this type of modernization can have an impact far beyond the energy bill. Heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems influence room comfort, while reliable power and water systems are essential to everyday hotel operations. Intelligent controls can also help operators better understand how their facilities use energy and make adjustments when needed.
The partnership comes at a time when hotel owners are looking closely at operating expenses and long-term property investments. According to information shared by Budderfly, the American Hotel and Lodging Association has reported that hotel operating costs have been increasing faster than revenue, with electricity, insurance, labor, and property expenses putting pressure on margins.
This environment is encouraging hospitality businesses to look for ways to modernize their properties while protecting capital for areas that directly affect guests. Energy infrastructure can be essential to hotel performance, but large upgrades can require significant investment. Budderfly’s Energy as a Service model is designed to address that challenge by taking responsibility for the initial infrastructure investment and ongoing management.
The Delta Hotels project also brings together several emerging trends in commercial energy management. Solar power provides an additional source of electricity, while battery storage can help manage energy use. Combined heat and power can produce electricity and useful thermal energy at the property. Water conservation systems and smart building controls add another layer of efficiency.
The project reflects Budderfly’s broader expansion across commercial industries. Over the past decade, the company has provided energy infrastructure solutions to businesses in sectors including restaurants, manufacturing, fitness, healthcare and retail. Its move into hospitality extends the same model to hotels, where energy demand is continuous, and infrastructure plays a central role in the guest experience.
For Delta Hotels by Marriott Allentown Lehigh Valley, the modernization is also intended to support sustainability goals while strengthening everyday operations. Jason Allan, Senior Regional Director of Operations at Palette Hotels, said the hotel views energy as one of its largest controllable operating expenses and sees the project as a way to modernize infrastructure while supporting future guest and corporate customer expectations.
Budderfly says its technology platform has helped customers avoid more than 330,000 metric tons of carbon emissions to date. The company has also expanded its energy infrastructure financing capabilities to support continued deployment of its Energy as a Service model across the United States.
The hospitality expansion highlights a larger shift in how commercial properties approach energy management. Instead of treating energy systems simply as background infrastructure, businesses are increasingly looking at them as an area where technology, efficiency and smarter management can improve overall operations.
As hotels continue to balance guest expectations with rising operational demands, modern energy infrastructure could become an increasingly important part of property management. Budderfly’s partnership with Delta Hotels by Marriott Allentown Lehigh Valley provides an example of how Energy as a Service can help hospitality businesses upgrade essential systems while taking a more managed approach to energy efficiency and long term infrastructure performance.
