A new digital feature gives eligible Hilton Honors members more flexibility to settle hotel bills, bringing loyalty rewards closer to everyday travel spending
McLean, Virginia, 22 October 2026 – Hotel loyalty programs have traditionally encouraged travelers to save their rewards for free nights and future stays. Hilton is now expanding those options by allowing eligible members to use their points to cover hotel charges directly through its mobile app. The new Pay with Points feature aims to make reward redemption simpler while giving travelers greater control over their hotel expenses.
Launched on October 21, 2026, the feature allows qualifying Hilton Honors members to apply points toward eligible charges on their hotel bill during digital checkout. Instead of visiting the front desk to settle the account, guests can review their bill, select how many points they want to use, and complete the process through the Hilton Honors app.
The service is initially available at 150 participating hotels across the United States. Members must have Silver, Gold, Diamond, or Diamond Reserve status to qualify. Hilton plans to expand the feature to more than 800 hotels by the end of 2026, followed by a wider rollout to more than 6,000 participating properties across the United States and Canada in early 2027.
The new option addresses a growing interest in flexible loyalty rewards. Travelers increasingly expect hotel technology to simplify routine tasks, from checking in and selecting rooms to managing payments. By bringing points redemption into digital checkout, Hilton is extending its mobile services beyond booking and room access to the final stage of a guest’s stay.
The process is designed to be straightforward. On the scheduled checkout date, eligible members can open the Hilton Honors app, review their hotel bill, and choose the available points redemption option. Depending on their points balance and the eligible charges, they may cover part or all of the amount due. If points do not cover the entire bill, the remaining balance must be paid through the payment method saved in the app.
However, convenience does not automatically mean that every redemption offers good value. Travelers should compare the number of points required with the cash amount being covered before confirming a transaction. Hilton Honors points are often valued by travel analysts at around 0.5 cents per point, although their actual value varies depending on how they are redeemed.
For example, if a hotel offers to clear a $50 bill in exchange for 2,000 points, each point would be worth 0.25 cents. A traveler might receive better value by saving those points for a future hotel booking. The calculation helps members decide whether immediate savings or a later reward makes more sense.
Hilton’s move also reflects broader changes in the hospitality industry. Hotels are investing in contactless services, mobile payment options, and personalized digital experiences to reduce friction throughout the guest journey. Loyalty programs have become an important part of this strategy, encouraging repeat bookings while offering travelers additional ways to use accumulated rewards.
For frequent guests, Pay with Points introduces another option for managing hotel expenses without changing their usual checkout routine. Its long-term appeal will depend on how widely the feature becomes available and whether the redemption rates provide meaningful value.
As hotel brands compete to improve customer experience, Hilton’s latest initiative demonstrates how loyalty points are evolving beyond traditional free night stays. For travelers, the key will be using these rewards strategically, balancing convenience with the value they can receive from every point earned.
