A New Kind of Luxury Arrives at Rockefeller Center

The Nell New York brings Aspen’s warm hospitality to Manhattan through an Art Deco-inspired design

New York, 5 October 2026 – Luxury hospitality is increasingly moving beyond grand entrances and polished interiors. Today, travelers are looking for places that feel connected to their surroundings, offer a sense of comfort, and tell a story about the destination. The forthcoming The Nell New York aims to do exactly that when it opens at Rockefeller Center in fall 2027.

Aspen Hospitality, a division of Aspen One, has unveiled the design vision for the 134-room property at 10 Rockefeller Plaza. The hotel will be the first and only hotel within Rockefeller Center and will become New York City’s only Relais & Châteaux property. It also marks the first New York expression of the Nell Hotels brand, which grew from the legacy of The Little Nell in Aspen.

The design brings together two New York-based studios, Rockwell Group and Pierre & Co. Rockwell Group is responsible for the public spaces, including the arrival area, reception, dining and social spaces, wine lounge and cellar, spa, fitness center, and meeting venues. Pierre & Co. is designing the guestrooms and suites.

Rather than simply recreating Rockefeller Center’s famous Art Deco style, the designers are interpreting its architectural character in a more contemporary way. Warm wood, stone, bronze, plaster, custom furnishings, and carefully selected lighting are being used to create interiors that feel sophisticated without becoming overly formal.

Rockwell Group has imagined the public areas as a gracious Manhattan townhouse. The arrival experience is intentionally residential, offering a quieter transition from the busy streets around Rockefeller Center. A limestone façade, fireplace, detailed metalwork, and geometric stone elements introduce the design language that continues throughout the property.

The seventh floor will become a central social space, bringing together reception, dining, lounges, a bar, and wine experiences. The bar will feature fluted amber stone, marble, textured glass, and custom lighting, while views toward the Rockefeller Center ice rink will reinforce the hotel’s strong sense of place. A private wine lounge and cellar will also build on the wine culture associated with The Little Nell in Aspen.

Wellness will have its own place within the property. The eighth floor will house a spa and fitness center designed around warm wood, natural stone, expansive windows, and carefully crafted details. The goal is to make these spaces feel comfortable and personal rather than like conventional hotel facilities.

The guestrooms take a quieter approach. Pierre & Co. has drawn from the geometry and spirit of Rockefeller Center while using softened curves, natural materials, warm neutrals, and subtle architectural details. A persimmon accent, inspired by the curtains of Radio City Music Hall, adds a small touch of color and connects the rooms to the cultural identity of the surrounding neighborhood.

The Presidential Suite carries the concept further with richer burgundy tones, distinctive stonework, and curved marble walls in the primary bathroom. Across the guestrooms, the emphasis is on comfort and functionality, with every element intended to feel purposeful rather than excessive.

For Nell Hotels, the project represents more than a new address. It is an opportunity to bring its approach to personalized luxury into one of the world's most recognizable urban settings. The brand describes its hospitality philosophy as creating a sense of home, offering distinctive access, engaging guests with intention, and creating an atmosphere that encourages connection.

When The Nell New York opens in 2027, its strongest feature may ultimately be its ability to balance two identities. It will be unmistakably rooted in Rockefeller Center and New York while carrying the relaxed, personal spirit that has defined The Little Nell in Aspen. The result could offer travelers something increasingly valuable in luxury hospitality: a stay that feels distinctly of its place.
