Putting-Together the Recipe of America’s Perfect Vacation

Go City the world’s leading sightseeing and attraction pass brand, has officially published the results from a new consumer survey, which revealed the biggest determinants of a “perfect” vacation, as well as the sacrifices Americans are willing to make in order to guarantee a perfect experience.

Conducted by Talker Research, the survey effectively took into account the opinion of more than 2,000 travelers, including U.S. residents who have traveled within the past year. As for the results, they found that the perfect vacation lasts for about 11 days on an average. It is also at least three hours from home, and prioritizes food (52%), relaxation (47%), good weather (34%), accommodations (38%), along with outdoor attractions and landmarks (31%).

Almost like an extension of it, six in ten Americans said the perfect vacation exists inside U.S., with 86% of Americans seeking six or more days to unwind.

“The idea of the ‘perfect’ vacation can feel overwhelming. Luckily, you don’t need to travel halfway around the world to find this,” said Judy Gauthier, Chief Commercial Officer at Go City. “Our research shows it’s often the simple things that matter most—spending time with loved ones, feeling relaxed, and making memories.”

Talk about the top destinations which emerged during this survey, they included a sunny beach (63%), the great outdoors (53%), a major city (43%), historic location (42%), or amusement park (30%). Complementing that would be a piece of detail claiming how two in five (41%) think their vacation is perfect only if they can check off bucket list items, like seeing iconic landmarks and going to local, must-see attractions.

Next up, we must dig into the fact that 92% percent of travelers said, if a single aspect of their vacation was not up to par, it would ruin the entire trip.

Out of all the spoilers reported during Go City’s survey, they covered unexpected costs like hidden fees (45%), travel hiccups like flight delays, lost luggage, etc. (44%), bad weather (41%), and inconveniently located hotels far from local attractions (40%). Apart from that, factors like poorly reregulated temperature in the hotel room or rental unit (35%), disappointing food (34%), as well as an uncomfortable bed were also among other top spoilers for modern-day travellers.

Turning our attention towards the compromises travellers are ready to make to get their perfect vacation, an estimated 88% of travellers said they’d be willing to sacrifice certain comforts to guarantee a better vacation experience.

A more specific view of such sacrifices would reveal more expensive hotel or rental unit (33%), followed by splurge spends for three months before traveling (32%. Apart from that, surveyed travellers were also found as willing to let-go of extra leg room on the flight (28%), any access beyond economy on a full flight (21%), along with a carry-on bag (19%).

Markedly enough, in exchange of these sacrifices, most travellers said they want more time to relax and unwind on vacation (29%), more money to spend on food and drinks (28%), an upgraded hotel room with a nice view and free breakfast (27%), and an ability to afford more premium vacation experiences like skip line, VIP access, private tours, etc. (23%).

Founded in 2018, Go City’s rise up the ranks stems from empowering travelers to save on sights, discover more, and plan with ease by unlocking access to more than 1,500 attractions in 25+ destinations across North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania for up to 50% off, as compared to the cost of purchasing individual attraction tickets.

This it does using an all-inclusive Pass, which offers an unlimited number of free, one-time entries to attractions and activities throughout the duration of the pass. Go City also has an Explorer Pass, geared towards offering free one-time entry to a chosen number of attractions and activities for a 30-day period.

“Every vacation deserves to be ‘perfect,'” said Gauthier. “What really makes the difference is knowing how to travel smarter to make your trip as stress-free as possible. A well-planned trip that balances activities and downtime with little indulgences like skip the line passes, flexible reservations, and an upgraded view can turn a good trip into a great one.
