Delivering Two Distinctive Efforts to Achieve One Common Goal of an Improved Guest Experience

Spirit Airlines has officially announced a new comfort-driven design, as well as an expanded version of its Free Spirit loyalty program, both the components arriving as a part of the airline’s latest initiative to elevate guest experience.

According to certain reports, this particular development paves the way for a brand-new, extra-legroom seating option, along with various exclusive new loyalty perks never offered before, such as expanded redemption options, seat upgrades, two free checked bags benefit, and more.

Talk about the whole value development on a slightly deeper level, we begin from the fact that guests will soon get to enjoy four extra inches worth of legroom in Go Comfy with a new total pitch spanning 32 inches. More on that would reveal how Spirit’s new preferred seating will include seven rows near the front of the aircraft and more than 40 seats. Spirit plans on phasing out the blocked middle seat to allow for the introduction of extra-legroom seating.

This new seating design will be markedly installed during the early part of June 2025, while rolling out across the majority of the fleet by July 2025. As for the remaining installations, they are expected to be completed in 2026.

Beyond that, guests can come expecting features like a carry-on bag, no change or cancel fees, priority boarding, reserved overhead bin space, a snack, and non-alcoholic beverage.

Turning our attention towards some of the newly-introduced benefits for the airline’s Free Spirit loyalty program, the given proposition packs together upgraded benefits for Free Spirit Status members and Free Spirit® Travel More Mastercard® cardholders.

For instance, it offers expanded redemption options. You see, guests can now redeem all four travel options, including premium options like Go Big and Go Comfy, using Free Spirit points. Furthermore, Spirit plans to add even more exciting redemptions in the coming months, with personalized experiences and elevated perks that cater to every type of traveler tipped to join the mix.

Another detail worth a mention is rooted in the availability of complimentary upgrades. This translates to how Free Spirit Status members and Free Spirit credit cardholders will enjoy upgrades to a Big Front Seat and Comfy Seat at boarding, based on availability and status level. Markedly enough, these benefits extend to one guest on the member’s reservation beginning in June.

Hold on, we still have a couple of benefits left to unpack, considering we haven’t yet touched upon Spirit’s offer of two free checked bags for Free Spirit Travel More Mastercard cardholders. This Spirit will facilitate in close collaboration with Bank of America.

Rounding up highlights would be a facility to earn on everyday purchases with the new Free Spirit debit card. The new Free Spirit Debit Card, scheduled to launch this Fall, will basically make it possible for anyone to earn Free Spirit points on their everyday purchase and later redeem the same for travel with Spirit. Not just that, cardholders will also receive Group 2 Priority Boarding and a 25 percent rebate on inflight purchases.

“Spirit’s new premium options offer travelers exceptional value, and we’re creating even more opportunities for Guests to experience them with our new extra-legroom seating option,” said Rana Ghosh, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Spirit Airlines. “We’re also adding more value and perks for our loyalty members at a time when others are taking away benefits, giving our most loyal Guests even more reasons to choose Spirit.”

The development in question delivers a rather interesting follow-up to WalletHub recently naming Spirit as Best Airline Overall for 2025. The company further earned top recognition for safety and affordability for the second consecutive year.

Spirit was also recognized by the Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) as a 2025 Four Star Low Cost Carrier. Beyond that, the airline’s Fit Fleet® was ranked one of the world’s youngest for 2025 by ch-aviation.

In case that wasn’t enough, Spirit even received the FAA’s Aviation Maintenance Technician Diamond Award of Excellence for the seventh consecutive year.
